My home router is very outdated, I think it’s time to get a new router; preferably with OpenWrt. I know slightly more about networking nowadays, so hopefully I’ll find something better than a basic, off-the-shelf consumer one. If you have any good recommendations for home routers with OpenWrt, please let me know. 😉

在中国有一些地下用户使用OpenWRT的路由器，以在家中实现网关级别访问国际互联网的用途，在中国内地的二手平台“闲鱼”和“淘宝”均有交易，这既有传统的路由器，比如小米、cudy等公司也推出过使用OpenWRT或可以刷入固件的产品，也有一些特殊边缘计算的网关（尤其是用于各种挖矿用途），甚至是安卓系统的机顶盒。
In China, some grassfoots in folks users use OpenWRT routers to achieve gateway-level access to the international internet proxy at home. These routers are traded on second-hand platforms such as Xianyu and Taobao in mainland China. They include traditional routers, such as those from Xiaomi and Cudy, which have launched products that use OpenWRT or can be flashed with firmware, as well as some special edge computing gateways (especially for various mining purposes), and even Android TV set-top boxes.

However, due to inflated prices, increasingly strict internet censorship, and the fact that manufacturers often only offer closed drivers & blobs, cheap products are not a good choice. (Raspberry Pi is included, but its price-performance ratio is too low.)

Almostly, these devices will overlap with the uses of a NAS. It could be a miniature computer like a NUC, an old laptop, NAS device similar to Synology, 1L/SFF OEM Tiny PC, a massive EATX rack server, or DIY build based on an ITX/MATX chassis with a Flex/SFX PSU. Even a Mac mini! A chassis can be 3D printed, or it can be mounted on a IKEA Skadis pegboard.
原本的路由器无需丢弃，由于基于x86的电脑不一定拥有无线网卡（也不是推荐方式），需要一个可以发射无线信号的路由器将其作为AP使用，此时可使用旧的路由器使其物尽其用。主要的路由表的运算力位于x86主机上，AP只负责信号发送接收。
Old original router doesn’t need to be discarded. Because x86-based computers may not have wireless network cards (and this isn’t recommended), a router capable of transmitting wireless signals is needed to use it as an access point (AP). In this case, the old router can be used to make the most of its resources. The main processing power for routing tables is located on the x86 computer host, while the AP is only responsible for signal transmission and reception.
